If you missed the meeting of the Spanish giants over the weekend, you missed… well a lot. Although Real saw more of the ball than one might expect them to against such a greedy opponent, and had a first half replete with salient attacking moves, goals from Jeremy Mathieu and Luis Suarez proved to be just enough to send Los Blancos back to the capital four points out of first place in the table.
Mathieu’s rather assertive header from a Neymar-conducted set piece bulged the net in the 18th minute, and despite Ronaldo’s first touch equalizer created by Karim Benzema’s sexually arousing backheel flick on in the 31st, Suarez struck again in the 55th from just inside the 18 yard line which stood to be the winner. In my time in Spain I learned a quite colloquial saying, which roughly translates to “Sometimes Real Madrid Win… Other times, Barçelona.” As we saw over the weekend, truer words have never been spoken.
